About Noor

I'm a product designer in Lisbon. I've worked alone since 2015, on the screens people use every day and rarely talk about: setup, settings, billing, the empty page.

NE

The short version

I grew up in Rotterdam, studied graphic design, and fell into software when a payroll company needed someone who could draw a form and write the words on it.

Four years there taught me that the second year of a feature matters more than its launch. Most of what people feel about a product comes from the screens they visit when something goes wrong: the settings page, the error, the invoice they don't understand.

So that's what I design. I work with two teams at a time, usually for six to ten weeks, and I write every word on the screens I draw. I'd rather make one flow excellent than ten flows fine.

When I'm not working, I'm walking somewhere with a notebook, or learning Portuguese badly. I write an essay about once a month, and I keep a page about this month.

How I got here

Three places, one habit: writing the words before drawing the screen.

  1. Independent Now

Onboarding, settings and billing for software teams of 10 to 200 people, two clients at a time, from Amsterdam and then Lisbon.

  2. Product designer at a payroll company

Four years on one product taught me that the second year of a feature matters more than the launch.

  3. Junior designer at a small studio

Websites for bakeries, a dentist and a ferry company. I learned to write my own copy because nobody else would.

  4. Graphic design, Rotterdam

Mostly type and forms. My thesis was on tax forms, which explains a lot.

Teams I've designed for

Named with permission. Most came through a referral from someone else on this list.

Three things I believe about this work

  • Words are the interface

Most screens are mostly text. If the sentence is wrong, no layout will save it.

  • The second year matters most

A feature is judged long after launch, by the people who have to live with it.

  • Saying no is part of the job

I'll tell you on the first call if you don't need me yet, and who you need instead.

Say hello

Email is best. For a project, a short intro call is faster than a long thread.
